It becomes more and more popular nowadays to speak about Europe and our strive to integrate into west society, but should we forget that we are Ukrainians? So in order to answer this question pupils our school decided to address this issue by recollecting values and traditions of our folk.

“We’re Ukrainians”

He who loves not his country can love nothing”.

Beside the hut the cherries are in bloom,

And May bugs o’er them dance…

The peasants from The fields return with weary step…

This late…

The young maids as they go sing songs…

At home

The tables have been laid, and supper waits.

Учні виконують пісню “Smile” (Music by V. Shainsky, Lyrics by M. Plyatskovsky, Translated by L. Cherepanova; from a cartoon movie “A Tiny Racoon”). With a smile a gloomy day is bright

And a rainbow in the sky at once appears.

Share your smile and everything’s all right

And it will return to you and will be near.

R e f r a i n Then for sure clouds in the sky

Will be merry, dancing high. A grasshopper’ll take at once a tiny fiddle.

From blue streams all rivers start.

Give a smile from all your heart! Give a smile from all your heart,

(Twice) Just from the middle.

I met a crane one sunny day. “Where do you live?” I asked the crane. “Where do you live?” I asked the crane. “My home is here, in Ukraine”.

Where does your homeland begin for you?” Words by M. Matussovsky, Music by V. Basner, Translated by I. Fedulova.

Say where does your Homeland begin for you?

With pictures on ABC cards,

With old and reliable friends of yours,

Who live in the neighbouring yards?

But maybe it starts with the cradlesong

Your mother once hummed low and sweet,

The memories which no one can take from you,

Whatever ordeals you may meet.

I can sing all day long A Ukrainian song.

Mother’s favourite song, Granny’s favourite song. Mother’s favourite song,

Granny’s favourite song.

I can sing all day long A Ukrainian song.

Brahm’s Lullaby Lullaby and good night, sleep in roses’ delight.

Let their sweetness be spread ’round your wee little bed.

Go to sleep now and rest, may your slumber be blessed.

Go to sleep now and rest, may your slumber be blessed.

Lull - a - by and good -night, sleep in ros - es’ de- light;

Let their sweet-ness be spread ’round your wee lit - tle bed.

Go to sleep now and rest, may you slum - ber be blessed.

Go to sleep now and rest, may your slum - ber be blessed

1. I know a face, a lovely face

As full of beauty as of grace,

A face of pleasure and of smile.

In darkness it gives light.

A face that is itself like joy,

To see it I’m a happy boy.

And I have a joy that have no other:

This lovely woman is my mother!

2. A mother is someone to shelter and guide us, To love us, whatever we do,

With warm understanding and infinite patience And wonderful gentleness too.

Keeping her family Happy and bright.
